We sit down to talk to Mavis Muchairi Mupumha the CEO and co founder of Minnie Bridal Boutique. Mavis co founded the group with her sister Emma Muchairi Zure who is currently running the operations in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Minnie Bridal Boutique offers comprehensive wedding planning, and wedding coordination services from start to finish of the wedding as well as hiring of brides maid dresses and wedding accessories making sure that the satisfaction of the bride is guaranteed.
1. What is your company name?: Minnie Bridal Botique
2. How did you come up with your company name?: – Minnie Bridal Boutique is derived from my daughters name Miranda.
3. What are the products or services that you provide?: We are a bridal boutique which provides wedding planning services, hiring of bridesmaids dresses, wedding dresses for hire, and mini bride dresses for hire.
4. Where do you operate from?: We operate from Harare, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
5. What propelled you to start your business?: The treatment i got on my wedding day was very bad it made me realize that I can do much better given the opportunity.
6. What drives you or motivates you?: – the happiness that i. See when i serve a client, i try to build a relationship with all my client so that we get know each other’s likes and dislikes
7. What do you enjoy the most about this industry?: The challenges that it comes with, for example, you can get customers that are very difficult. Having my skills for communication I try by all means to change their perspectives torwads me.
8. What is the highlight of your business journey to date?: It’s awesome seeing that people are recognising the good work we are doing.
9. How did you start your business?: My friend inspired me, then I started with hiring out bridal robes and slippers. I realised my potential then I went on to design my own wedding dresses and events dresses and hiring them out.
10. What makes you stand apart from the rest of the people providing similar services/products?: Having my own distinct brand idea through things like my logo and also designing my own dresses. Because of this, customers get to choose what they prefer rather than giving them what is available at that moment.
11. Do you have any advice for couples planning their special days?: Couples planning their weddings need to set up their budget and stick to it. They also need to hire a wedding planner so that they worry less about what will happen on the day, as wedding planners we carry all the bride and grooms burdens
12. Do you have any advice for aspiring wedding vendors who might want to follow in your footsteps?: You need to be honest to the customer always. Good communication is the key point to winning a customers heart.
13. How do you unwind after a busy period?: I practice mindfulness or meditation. Some how I get to chat with my customers general stories which helps both the customer and I to offload the burdens and stresses.
14. Please share your best marketing tips/ lessons that you’ve learnt in business?: You should always capture new interest and leads. You should post your work everyday on social media and support other wedding vendors/groups through liking their products and services.
15. Where do you see yourself in 10 years time? I see myself running several weddkng venues and shops, doing catering and deco as well.
16. If people want to order from you, how can they do that? The first step during our ordering process is to ask the customer which colours they want for their dress(es), as well as the date of the function, type of product and service they require. After this, we book an appointment to meet and introduce our products to the customer. Once the customer is satisfied, s/he pays a deposit to secure their date. Collection of dresses is done 3 days prior to the wedding day. The customer leaves their identity document then collects it the day they return the stuff they hired.
