On this weeks Featured Vendor Fridays, we interview Vimbisai Chuma from Sophia’s Kid Bridal. Sophia’s Kid Bridal is a wedding dress shop located in Harare, Zimbabwe that provides a wide range of bridal wear, wedding planning service and grooms men accessories.

1. What is your company name? May you give us a Run through of who you are and what you do? : We are Sophia’s Kid Bridal, a one stop shop for all things bridal. We’re passionate about helping brides-to-be find their perfect wedding gown and bridesmaids dresses. As an upcoming bridal one stop shop we provide you with an expert team that is dedicated to providing exceptional service, unparalleled expertise, and a curated collection of classy bridal wear.
2. May you please introduce yourself to our audience: My name is Vimbisai Chuma, Sophia’s Kid (mwana wa Sophia)
3. What services do you provide?: We have bridal wear I.e. wedding gowns (exclusive/designer/bespoke) for hire or purchase
as well as bridesmaids dresses (elegant, stylish, unique) for hire or purchase.
We also have morning gowns and morning shoes
veils and accessories (wedding jewelry), flower bouquets for brides and bridesmaids dresses for weddings and special occasions
4. Where are you located?: We are currently operating from Blantford flat 5. Corner Leopold and Fife Avenue.
5. What propelled you to start your wedding business?: Growing up I wanted to be a wedding planner, but my mum kept saying go to school and after I was done with school I got a job and I gave up on the dream. But what made me start was grief, January 2021 I lost my mum and I was devastated. I didn’t know what to do with so much grief so I channeled all my grief to starting a business, hence the name Sophia’s Kid Bridal.
6. What drives you or motivates you?: I guess my mum’s memories drives me and I am motivated by other ladies who are thriving in their respective fields
7. What do you enjoy the most about this industry?: This industry has made me realize I enjoy working with ladies, I have made friends with most of my past brides. And no matter how bad my day is just receiving pictures of happy clients brightens my day.
8. How did you start your business?: I had received some money from my mum to add to the money I wanted to use order gowns. So I started with 3 gowns ☺️. I didn’t have models but the advantages of having sisters ☺️🤭. They came through
9. What is the highlight of your business journey to date?: My first bride lol, I remember it vividly. I had started June 2021 but my first client was in September 2021, she was referred by my sister and back then I was still operating from my sister’s house in Waterfalls and she drove all the way and loved the gown. It was still the covid era so the wedding was virtual. I remember I was in town and grinning all the way watching that video. I even screamed with too much excitement (I scream when I am happy 😂)
10. What makes you stand apart from the rest of the people providing similar services/products? My bridesmaids dresses are different from most people offering the same products. I have opened up my inbox for brides to vent as I believe ‘depression ndeye kushaya’ (not undermining depression but I believe we can overcome depression one person at a time). I get to just listen when they vent and it gives me peace.
We don’t just cater for weddings but we also provide pregnancy shoot dresses, bridal shower dresses, prom dresses, and birthday shoot dresses. We have expanded our services to include, human hair, bridal shoes, grooms suits and groomsmen suits and accessories(tie, bowties, cufflinks, etc)
In addition to this, we offer alteration services, dress fitting, gown cleaning and bridal appointments. We also provide
wedding planning, deco, and catering
11.Any advice for couples planning their special days?: I believe marriage is a beautiful thing and a blessing from God. Planning a wedding can be hectic but I do believe that’s where you must bond more. Pray together, consult each other and above all just be there for each other.
12. Any advice for aspiring wedding vendors who might want to follow in your footsteps?: There is no right time to start. Just start where you are and with what you have. God will do the rest
13. How do you unwind after a busy period?: I go home cry or laugh depending lol. Then watch a movie or sleep depending as well 😂
14. Please share your best marketing tips: I honestly just wing it, when I am feeling low I hardly do anything but social media has to be your best friend if you want to grow in business
15. Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?: I can not even comprehend it. But watch the space 😉
